The personal cost of obesity can’t keep hiding in the shadows

Why we do what we do

We understand that the conversation around overweight and obesity is complicated, confusing, and oftentimes difficult to facilitate. People living in larger bodies can experience stigma every day, from health professionals, family, friends, and strangers. When seeking support, people can struggle to feel heard and understood, while healthcare practitioners may be unsure of how best to have a productive dialogue.

We believe every Western Australian has the right to good health and want to ensure better health is achieved across the entire population.

We are driven by the personal stories of people impacted by obesity. We do what we do for them, for us, and for the future of our community.

Overweight and obesity impacts the majority of the people in our community. We have a duty to work better to improve the systems that create and change our health. We need to ensure that everyone operates with greater empathy, understanding, and support for the person who sits at the centre of our work.

Your voice matters

We work with people impacted by overweight and obesity, organisations that support consumers, and numerous organisations that are committed to making a better health and social environment for Western Australians.

Through this work we have heard numerous stories; stories of pain, suffering, hope, joy, and pride. These stories guide our work. They are the centre of everything that we do.

We are committed to supporting people impacted by overweight and obesity to share their stories in a way and at a time that works for them. Below is a collection of stories that have been provided to us with permission for publication.
