Kelly Cooper is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian and public health advocate. She has spent most of her life living with obesity and has experienced weight bias and stigma in her personal and professional life. Her experiences fuelled her to take on the challenge of changing perceptions of obesity in Australia.
In her private practice, Kelly’s work is focussed on patient-centred care that considers the many complexities of modern living and how this affects a person’s health and wellbeing. She combines her private practice work with her role as the Program Manager at the Obesity Collective, Australia’s peak health body for obesity which is dedicated to transforming the way Australia thinks, acts and speaks about obesity.
Kelly has worked on several research papers related to obesity prevention and treatment, weight stigma, and eating disorders at a higher weight. She is a member of the Weight Issues Network (WIN) Lived Experience Leadership Team. Kelly has shared her own experiences of living with obesity in many mediums and has provided input on behalf of WIN into state-wide initiatives such as The WELL Collaborative and Health and Wellbeing Queensland.
